"After 9 years walking the path toward Anusara Yoga teacher certification, holding the Anusara-Inspired status for the last 6 years, in February 2012 I chose to relinquish my license with that organization. I have long felt that my personal beliefs are in conflict with the method's founder, John Friend, and can no longer, with integrity, nor from a legal standpoint, call myself Anusara-InspiredTM. This in no way invalidates my faith in this method, nor will it change much about the way I teach. All this changes is the label. I am grateful to have found the Anusara method, and to those teachers who continue to inspire me. Please bear with us as we work to update my point of view with regards to my teaching style. For now, all the following still holds true in my public classes and private sessions:"
The Anusara yoga method is designed to serve students of any level of experience or ability, from children to seniors, and students with special therapeutic needs to advanced practitioners.
Anusara yoga teachers are committed to helping build and empower each student's self-esteem, while inspiring light-heartedness, playfulness, and joyful creativity within the yoga practice.
Each class has a heart-oriented theme which has a meaningful connection to the grand spiritual purposes of the asana practice.
An elegant, concise set of alignment principles, called the "Universal Principles of Alignment", is applied to each asana.
Poses are modified or supported with props if necessary to help each student achieve the general form of pose.
Ultimately, we want each student to leave an Anusara yoga class feeling better about him or herself, empowered by the revelation of his or her Divine nature.
